Price does not include: Transport to Painting Venues on the Lizard chosen by Ray Balkwill as subjects to paint en plein air. Guests are required to arrange their own transport in their own vehicles please, with car share on location a popular option.
Set in a stunning position on the coast, Mullion Cove Hotel offers an excellent variety of nearby exciting painting locations in which you can make the most of Ray’s tuition. Your group will explore Mullion Cove Harbour, Cadgwith, Kynance Cove, Porthleven and the creeks around the Helford Estuary to try and capture the mood and spirit of each place within your work.
A strong advocate of painting en plein air, Ray’s practical painting courses will encourage you to sketch and paint on location as much as possible. Tuition is on a personal level during which you will learn to progress in your chosen medium. The course will also include demonstrations, talks and critiques.
Each course comprises five night’s dinner, bed and breakfast and four full days of painting. Courses start on the Sunday evening at 6.30pm with welcome drinks at reception after which you’ll depart post-breakfast on Friday. Please bring your own painting materials.

Ray Balkwill, SWAc is a well-known West Country artist who paints marine subjects and landscapes in watercolours, pastels and oils. He is a popular teacher and has been running painting courses for over seventeen years. He is author of four books as well as being a regular contributor to ‘The Artist’ Magazine. In 2004 APV Films made a film about him entitled ‘Capturing Estuary Moods.’
He is a member of the St Ives Society of Artists and in 2006 he was elected an academician in the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts. He is a strong advocate of painting en plein air and his main objective is to try and capture the mood and ‘spirit’ of a place.
